Washing your hair? Here’s how to do it right

How to wash your hair properly? We’ll advise you!

It’s amazing how many myths there are about washing your hair. Here’s a quick guide on how to wash your hair properly and finally get rid of common problems like greasiness and breakage. Just follow a few simple rules that most people don’t know.

By following the recommended step-by-step guide, you’ll eliminate excess grease, extend the time between washes, and make your hair healthy and shiny.

Step 1 – Always wash your hair twice!

MYTH! Hair only needs to be washed once, and the more shampoo, the better if it doesn’t lather.

Don't be alarmed if the first shampoo wash doesn’t lather much. This happens because you’re removing the worst of the dirt, so you should always wash your hair twice. It’s also a good idea to comb your hair before shampooing. If you want more lather, just add water, and the shampoo will foam up.

TIP! The shampoo opens the cuticle, the surface layer of the hair, to remove all impurities. It’s important to be very gentle when washing, as too much friction can damage the hair while it’s exposed.

  1. Apply the shampoo to your hands and work it into an emulsion.

  2. Add a little water and gently massage it into the scalp using your fingertips.

  3. Massage for a while, then rinse. During the second wash, work through the lengths of the hair.

  4. Apply the shampoo the same way for the second wash, but this time, lather it up.

  5. Draw the foam through the lengths of your hair and wash gently.

  6. Rinse thoroughly. Your hair should feel lightly scrubbed.

Gently squeeze the water out of your hair with a towel. Do not scrub or twist your hair!

Step 2 – Always seal your hair with conditioner!

MYTH! Using conditioner weighs the hair down.

Conditioner has the opposite effect to shampoo, as it seals the cuticle of the hair. It’s important to apply conditioner only to the lengths. Even for fine hair, using conditioner is essential. Focus on the hair from the ears down when applying. If you apply conditioner to the roots, it can stress the scalp and make it oily. The lengths, however, need conditioner to close and smooth the hair, protecting it from dirt.

CAUTION: If you skip the conditioner, you leave your hair unprotected, exposing it to dirt and mechanical damage. The result can be visible split ends and, over time, hair breakage.

Rinse the hair thoroughly and keep rinsing until it is no longer slippery.
